Philips SpeechMike II – General Overview of different SpeechMike Models

Philips SpeechMike

The professional’s Choice

An increasingly mobile business community, growing documentation volumes and increasing cost pressure in highly competitive markets have made dictation a crucial factor for law firms, hospitals and other professional businesses. Phillips responded to those needs by developing a full range of high quality professional dictation and transcription products that enable you to optimize the entire documentation workflow on an unprecedented scale.

Whether in a small office or a large, networked facility, the SpeechMike is the accepted standard for PC dictation. Several models of SpeechMike let the user choose the model that works best for his needs. The software and configuration tools let the user, administrator or the network administrator adjust settings that optimize the SpeechMike to any dictation environment or application.

Compatibility
SpeechMikes are fully compliant with Windows 2000 and XP
and support drivers for 98SE and ME. SpeechMikes are also
compatible with Citrix and offer hardware drivers for Linux.
It’s easy to upgrade from existing SpeechMikes, and they are
compatible with the Philips foot control (for record, rewind
and playback). Drivers and utility software are included.

Software Development Kit
Philips makes a development kit available to reseller partners
for integration with other applications. New features and
tools make integration easier, including a 60-second testing
tool, sample applications, reference sound samples, and an
advanced configuration utility. It is also possible now for
integrator partners to program their own serial number into
the SpeechMike for easy ID detection.

Control application
The SpeechMike features an intuitive tool that makes it easy
to control the actions of all buttons, making it fully adaptable
to any environment or requirement, giving more flexibility
to network administrators and facility managers. All LEDs
can be programmed independently, all buttons are fully
programmable and remappable, and most buttons can be
disabled. The four function buttons on the Plus models can be
programmed to perform other functions.

Set-up and configuration
The SpeechMike is programmable to adapt to any user
requirement. The Wizard install option makes it easy to
set up and configure, and a centralized set-up is available
for uniformly configuring all SpeechMikes on a network.
Many other configuration options are available, including
configurable power-saving modes, lock options to prevent
users from changing key settings, and silent set-up options.

SpeechExec Pro
Packed with features to manage the dictation process,
SpeechExec Pro is the perfect complement to the
SpeechMike. The PC-based dictation software gives users realtime
job tracking that lets authors monitor jobs in progress.
Authors can assign priority status to a dictation and a work
list with advanced sort and filter options gives authors the
ability to manage many files and folders easily. Send work to a
transcriptionist or to a speech recognition application with a
built-in interface link.

SpeechMike II
Customer-Driven Design

First introduced in 1996, the unique Philips SpeechMikes quickly became the number one choice of medical and legal professionals for PC dictation. The innovative SpeechMike put dictation and PC navigation into one high quality, easyto-use tool, making it the standard in PC dictation. Responding to users’ needs, the first barcode reader version was introduced in 1997, the first USB version was released in 1999 and in 2002, the first USB barcode scanner version arrived on the scene. Also in 2002, the popular 4-Position Slide Switch was released on the SpeechMike Classic. Now with over 340,000 SpeechMikes sold worldwide, it is clear why SpeechMikes are the indispensable dictation tool for
modern professionals.

SpeechMike II, the Next Generation
Philips continues to make history with the introduction of the redesigned SpeechMikes, incorporating a new, ergonomic design and the latest technological advancements. By listening to the feedback of professional users and collaborating with our partners to develop new features and enhancements, Philips once again establishes itself at the forefront of global professional dictation.

Quality and Performance
Philips performs rigorous new product testing to ensure
that they will provide long life and high quality performance
during even the most extreme conditions. SpeechMikes
and other dictation products are manufactured in the
Philips plant in Vienna, Austria, not outsourced to a third
party. Every product undergoes a thorough quality check
and testing to ensure outstanding quality and performance.

Best PC navigation tool
The integrated trackball gives you precise navigation of
your PC. The integrated “point-and-click” tools offer the
same control of your PC as a mouse. It’s easy to dictate
and navigate through every PC application with your
SpeechMike without ever touching your PC.

Easy to use
Many new features were introduced or redesigned for the
SpeechMike that were a direct result of user input. Among
the features that make the SpeechMike easier to use are
the large red ‘on-air’ LEDs let users know when they are in
active recording mode and three different colors of large
LEDs indicate when in pause, overwrite and insert modes.
The optical trackball is now dust-proof and also features an
LED that lights up when in use. The scroll wheel features
‘smart scroll’ with a confirmation button, and can now also
adjust the volume during playback. A larger microphone
has also been enhanced to filter out background noise for
crystal clear sound quality, resulting in optimized files for
speech recognition applications and transcription.

First class design
Designed for simplicity, the new SpeechMikes are smaller,
smoother and lighter and fit perfectly in the palm of your
hand. With four ergonomic dictation zones, the controls
are within the sweep angle of the thumb for complete
control of your PC with one hand, for both left- and righthanded
users.

Versatility
The new SpeechMikes are fully programmable, giving
users and administrators more options to configure their
SpeechMike to meet any individual preference or network/
integration requirement. Philips offers several models of
the SpeechMike:

The SpeechMike Classic features the popular 4-Position
Slide Switch. The Classic Plus version also features four
additional fully programmable function buttons.

The SpeechMike Pro features push buttons for recording
functions. The Pro Plus version also features four additional
fully programmable function buttons.

The SpeechMike with Barcode Scanner is available in both
the Classic and Pro models. The integrated barcode
scanner allows barcodes to be read from up to 10”
away and attaches that patient or client information to
the dictation, increasing accuracy and data security. The
SpeechMikes with Barcode integrate seamlessly with your
IT system, truly raising the standard of workflow efficiency.
